As a digital designer, I’m excited to see the growing number of tech solutions that are making life easier for equestrians. Our industry, with its deep roots in tradition, is evolving with innovations that enhance everything from horse care to rider performance.

It’s inspiring to watch companies push the boundaries, creating tools that not only elevate the equestrian experience but also propel the sport into the future. Through Juliana’s blog, The Tech Equestrian, we’ve discovered an array of promising equestrian startups. Her stories are shaped by her expertise in technology and event marketing, giving her a unique perspective on how these innovations can make a difference. Like us, she knows the intersection of the horse world and the digital space. Here are some other exciting leaders in our industry also pushing for change in tech.

The FEI

Live Events from Top Competitions

One of the best ways to get in touch with world class competitions is by following the FEI (Fédération Equestre Internationale). For those who are unfamiliar, the FEI is the governing body for international equestrian sports. They aren't a tech company per se but they have a ton of technology behind their organization. They are responsible for enforcing regulars within six disciplines including jumping, dressage & para dressage, eventing, driving & para driving, endurance, and vaulting.

You’ll find official FEI apps including FEI Sport and FEI TV on the Go so you never have to miss a beat. The FEI SportApp showcases athletes and horses with a breakdown of their results and bios. You can follow your favorites and always stay up to speed on the live events, on-demand content and more!

Equiscore

AI-powered Horse Show Analytics Tool

Equestrians are always striving to learn and improve, pouring their heart and soul into a sport that everyone knows requires significant time and expense. Many riders invest in sports psychologists to boost their performance or consult horse psychics to better understand their equine partners. Yet, surprisingly few turn to data and analytics to enhance their skills.

EquiScore is here to change that. Introducing the equestrian tech startup that provides near real-time analysis for riders at competitions, delivering key metrics like track efficiency, pace, and more. With EquiScore, users can compare their rounds with competitors and friends, access class stats, identify course hotspots, and analyze strides between fences. This wealth of data empowers riders to gain deeper insights and elevate their performance. All you have to do is upload a video of your round from a cellphone to their app.

Here are the top 5 ways competition analytics can improve your ride:

  1. Course Hotspots: Identify where you performed above or below average on course, and discover the most problematic fences post competition.
  2. Most Efficient Track: Learn from others' strategies and refine your approach to find the most efficient track between fences.
  3. Strides Between Fences: See the number of strides you got between fences, and compare this to the performance of others in the class.
  4. Fault Averages (Per Fence Type): Use fault averages to tailor your training for you and your horse.
  5. Trends: Stay ahead by identifying trends that could indicate potential injuries or weaknesses.

These are the insights that Shallin Ris, the founder of Equiscore always wished she had as a competitive rider. Growing up competing in Northern California, Shallin later moved to Tel Aviv to work in the tech industry. When she returned to California and reentered the competitive equestrian world, she was struck by how little the sport had evolved. To address this, she founded EquiScore, creating the very solution she had been searching for.

Sallin's vision is to help riders strengthen their connection with their horses and gain a clearer understanding of their performance. With over 50 riders already signed up for their beta, Equiscore is inviting more equestrians who believe it’s time to bring the sport into the 21st century and are eager to use technology to improve their rides.

Equimo

Heart Beat Data for Riders & their Horses

Equimo is an app with robust data that gathers information from a heartbeat tracker as you ride. As equestrians, we can always tell when something is off with our horses but most of the time we are trusting our past experiences and intuition. We find that data and analytics will continue to improve our industry as a whole from performance to management. We are rooting for young companies like Equimo that are utilizing analytics to help change the game for riders and their horses.

Equimo has taken it upon itself to help both equestrian enthusiasts and professionals alike to do what they love a little better and smarter. Their team focuses on really detailed and precise analysis of horses’ movement in training and adds to that a heart activity record. All of this is packed into a small practical device that has a long battery life (40 hours) and is easy to use, so riders don’t have to put anything too complicated on their horses. Equimo supports special features for show jumping, racing, endurance, and eventing. However, Equimo is suitable for absolutely any rider and there is a mobile app, web app, and a smartwatch app to work with.

The system allows users not only to measure and analyze their horse's movement, but also create a training diary, track trends, control movement, stable management, and team communication. You can share your horse with other team members and check what is happening with your horse when you are at a competition or on a vacation. Equimo tries to keep a really close relationship with our users and listen to their needs. Many of the features and Equimo’s current app look are the result of working with active users who help us push the product further. The Equimo team is currently focusing on a product for veterinarians working with ECG tracking for horses.

The company has been created in response to the needs of riders. Their founder says, “we are close to them, we all ride horses, and we develop and test our products on our own horses. Our main goal is to really help riders, coaches, vets, owners, and whole teams and stables.”
